Ethnic Minority Farmers’ Perceptions of Climate Change and Its Effects on Crop Production in Northwest Vietnam: A Case Study of H’mong Farmers in Pa Lau Commune, Tram Tau District, Yen Bai Province

This study aimed to assess the perception of H'mong farmers in northwest mountainous region on climate change, its impacts crop production, and their adaptation strategies. Reports natural disaster events damages for period ranging from 2012-2021, together with meteorological data including daily temperature precipitation 1991-2021, were collected. Fifty households among H’mong randomly selected four villages Pa Lau commune interviews based structured questionnaires. The results showed that most know is changing. However, perceptions trends these changes terms rainfall, temperature, extreme weather not consistent analysis data. also revealed this because evaluated mainly observations short-term associated directly affect livelihoods. perceived soil erosion hot cold have tended increase production some major local crops. Other types disasters such as droughts, floods, landslides, pests, strong winds more or less depending type. Adaptation measures taken by mitigate effects change are simple, flexible, seasonal low-cost measures. provides basic information authorities at all levels negative change.
